*****

-Ross and Missy Hyatt welcome the home audience. The United States Tag Team Championship are on the line tonight in a rare defense.

“Beautiful” Bobby Eaton defeated Hacksaw Higgins via pinfall with the Alabama Jam (2:38)

  • POST-MATCH: Lady Blossom runs out and plants a kiss on Eaton before running off. On Pro the day before Blossom was merely a “mysterious woman”. Interesting. Eaton defends the TV Title against Austin tonight at the Omni.

THE GREAT AMERICAN BASH CONTROL CENTER

Paul E. Dangerously is here to hype next month’s big PPV. New match announced: Sting will meet Nikita Koloff in a Russian Chain Match. Clip of Koloff hitting Sting with the chain at SuperBrawl and the post-match brawl to the parking lot. Also announced: The Steiner Brothers will team with Missy Hyatt against Arn Anderson, Barry Windham, and…PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY in a Steel Cage! Clip of Hyatt attacking Dangerously at the end of an earlier episode of World Championship Wrestling. Dangerously guarantees this will be one war that’s settled at Great American Bash

“The Total Package” Lex Luger defeated Carl Nelson via submission with the Torture Rack (1:49)

  • POST-MATCH: Luger embaraces “The World’s Strongest Man” Bill Kazmaier, who was shown cheering for Luger (in a Luger shirt) in the front row.

THE DANGER ZONE

Paul E. Dangerously is standing by with “The Russian Nightmare” Nikita Koloff. Koloff will meet Sting in a Russian Chain match at The Great American Bash. Clip of Koloff hitting Sting with a chain at SuperBrawl as well as a clip of Koloff hitting Sting with the chain again on the 6.18.91 episode of Pro. Back to the interview Koloff tells Sting he was in the wrong place at the wrong time at SuperBrawl and brags that he has never quit anything in his life, no fear for the Scorpion Death Lock. Koloff tells Sting to be in the best shape of his life to face him again.

Black Blood [w/ Kevin Sullivan] defeated Johnny Meadows via pinfall with a flying forearm smash (1:48)

  • Ross hypes Blood’s impending feud with Big Josh as well as Sullivan and One Man Gang shaving El Gigante bald last night over the recycled footage.

VIGNETTE: THE DESPERADOS SAGA CONTINUES

Dutch Mantell tells Black Bart that Stan Hansen is a master of disguise but he’s looking for him. Bart mentions Hansen is the best shot in the state of Texas and they should practice their shooting to impress him once they meet. Bart shows off some gun spinning and they hit each other with their cowboy hats before hugging and jumping around. Bart says he’s not sure if Dead-Eye Dick needs to learn to shoot one of these DADGUM PISTOLS and Bart throws a rock at him to get his attention since he can’t see or hear. Bart demonstrates a quick draw, shooting a bottle, Mantell so impressed they hug and jump around some more. Dick tries to do it but drops his gun, then accidentally shoots the ground. Mantell wants to shoot him, Bart holds him back and says they will “learn ‘im”. Dick tries again and the bullet ricochets off the bell tower, knocking the Sheriff’s hat off.

Cut to the Ghost Town jail, where Dick is now being held. Mantell and Bart slowly approach, guns drawn, towards the sleeping lawman. They grab the DADGUM keys and open the cell; they wake Dick up but he accidentally LOCKS THEM ALL IN, the keys on DADGUM table.

The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael “P.S.” Hayes & Badstreet) [c] [w/ Big Daddy Dink] vs. “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes & Big Josh for the WCW UNITED STATES TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The Freebird Rule is in effect for this one, Badstreet taking Garvin’s place in the title defense. DDP leads the ‘Birds to the ring then leaves with his Diamond Doll to go do sex stuff probably. Ross brings up the ‘Birds also becoming the Six Man Tag Team Champions which we will see footage of on next week’s Main Event. THANK YOU.

Hayes hip tosses Rhodes, then struts and does a moonwalk to show off for the “adoring” public. Rhodes with an armdrag followed by a pair of slams. Josh excitedly tags in and shakes hands with Hayes, Rhodes has to tell him not to be so trusting. Hayes takes Josh to the mat with a hip toss and excitedly asks for another handshake, which a slightly more annoyed Josh accepts still. Hayes connects with a cheapshot kick followed by a back elbow, Josh immediately gets to his feet and bowls Hayes over with a pair of clotheslines. Josh now wants a handshake but Hayes doesn’t want it, his mind games having failed. Josh log rolls Hayes, Hayes throws a tantrum and gives Dink a “WHAT THE HELL” exclamation of surprise. Badstreet tags in, brings Josh to the mat with a snapmare, but Josh dodges an elbowdrop. Josh with a corner whip followed by a back elbow, Badstreet scrambles to his corner for a shoulder massage/pep talk from Hayes. Rhodes tags in, crowd boos Hayes’ attempt at getting the crowd to clap along. Rhodes has better luck. Rhodes counters a backdrop with a kick, Badstreet ducks a lariat and catches him with a kick to the midsection.

Hayes tags in, Rhodes dodges a kneedrop and works the leg over with a toehold. Ross desperately denies that Rhodes is being given preferential treatment for being the son of Dusty Rhodes, saying he wants to make it on his own. Well look he IS being given preferential treatment but he also doesn’t suck so it works out. Badstreet tags in, clotheslines Rhodes to the floor, Hayes whips him into Dink for a managerial clothesline. Rhodes counters a corner whip, he and Badstreet knock heads. Hayes tags in but so does BIG JOSH. Josh clubs everybody, back elbow to Hayes, all four men start brawling in the ring. Josh hits the seated splash on Hayes, Dink pushes Josh off and the ref calls for a DQ.

Dustin Rhodes & Big Josh defeated The Fabulous Freebirds [c] via DQ; The Freebirds retain the WCW UNITED STATES TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP (9:34)

  • They kept the crowd into it but this match had a lot of nothing going on action-wise. Cool that the Freebird Rule is in effect though, that could be fun for future defenses. (*1/2)

Josh gets sent to the floor, Freebirds double-team Rhodes until Josh recovers and scares them off with his axe handle.

-Ross and Hyatt hype next week’s show: more Desperados, Steve Austin vs. Z-Man, Ric Flair will enter THE DANGER ZONE.
